A
B
Bulk Bag Types -
“A-bag” - All FIBCs
“B-bag” - FIBC without a liner
“C-bag” - Conductive FIBC
“D-bag” - Static Dissipative/Protective FIBC
Baffle - A bridge placed in each corner of a bulk bag to help the bag retain its square shape and stability after filling. Also called a “MaxSack™ Container”.
Bale - A compacted package of finished bulk bags. Normally, this will be 100 units to a bale.
Baler Bag - A PE film cover/bag that is put around a finished bale of bags.
Bottom - The bottom panel of a bulk bag that usually is same fabric weight as the side panels.
C
Cardholders/Envelopes - A plastic envelope that is sewn on a bulk bag for product inserts or customer’s literature. Also called a “Document Pouch”.
Cargo Straps - A heavy-duty strap, one per bag, threaded through all four lift loops to give a one-point pickup.
Chutes/Spouts - Refers to the fill spout and/or discharge spout of a bag.
Circular Woven - See “Tubular”
Clean Seal® Cut - A fabric cut with a smooth, clean, clear edge.
Cleaning System - A piece of equipment for cleaning used bags.
Cold Slit - A fabric cut with a cold knife. This type of edge will not be sealed.
Conductive/Pactainer ED® Container - A bulk bag that has conductive fibers running in both the warp and fill of the fabric forming a grid. Conductive bulk bags will have ground/connector tabs for grounding and are groundable from the top of the straps to the bottom of the discharge spouts. These bags are commonly referred to as a type “C-bag”.
Conductive Straps - Straps or lift loops that have conductive fibers woven into the webbing and are used on conductive type C-bags.
Cordlock - A locking device used for closing the spouts of a bulk bag. There are two types- standard and heavy duty.
Cross Corner Loops - Straps that cross the corners and attached on adjacent panels. Also called “Spread Strap™“ lift loops.
Cube Liner - A liner that has a separate top and bottom sealed to a liner body. There are spouts sealed in the tops and bottoms where applicable.
Cut Edge - The burned or sealed edge of the fabric.
D
Deaerator - A piece of equipment used for filling containers that increases the bulk density by compacting the powder.
Diaper - See “Protective Bottom”
Discharge Spout/Bottom Chute - A tube sewn into the bottom of the bulk bag used for discharging the bag.
Discharge System - A piece of equipment used for discharging products out of containers.
Duffel Discharge Spout - A discharge spout with a drawstring type closure that protects the discharge spout. It will not have a reinforcement square.
Duffel Top - A chute which is the same diameter as the bulk bag and sewn to the top of the side panels instead of a top, typically made with 3 oz. coated fabric. Also called “Open Top”.

Envelope - see "Cardholder/Envelopes"

Fabric Fill - The horizontal direction of the fabric. (Selvedge to selvedge)
Fabric Warp - The vertical direction of the fabric. (Cut edge to cut edge)
FIBC - Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container or “FIBC” is the technical name for a bulk bag.
Fill Height - The height of the bag after it is filled. (4" less than empty height.)
Fill Spout/Top Chute - A tube sewn into the top of the bag used for filling bulk bags.
Fill System - A piece of equipment used for filling product into containers.
Filler Cord - A yarn sewn into the inside sew line on the topside of a seam to reduce sifting through the seam.
Flat Bottom - The bottom of a bulk bag that does not have a discharge spout. Also called “Plain Bottom”.
Forklift Adapter - A forklift adapter that is mounted on the forks moving the lift point by several feet.
Full Open Dump Bottom - A chute that is the same diameter as the bulk bag and when opened will allow the entire bottom to open up. Used for products that agglomerate or bridge when put in a bag. Also called a “F.O.D. Bottom”.

Hem - The fabric edge that is folded over and glued or sewn down.
Hot Slit - A cut with a heated knife so that the edge is sealed.
Hygroscopic - A material or product which attracts moisture from the atmosphere.

Jostler - A piece of equipment used to increase the discharging rate of bags that are filled with agglomerating products.

L
Liner - Usually a polyethylene gussetted bag inserted into a bulk bag. Other material options are available including polypropylene, foil, and other specialty grades.
Loops - See “Straps”

No Top - There is no spout or duffel top—the bulk bag is open like box without a top.

Open top - See “Duffel Top”
P
Pancake - A round cover that is sewn to the Reinforcement Square to cover the opening.
Petal Closure - See “Reinforcement Square /Star Closure”
Plastic Tie/Cable Tie - A strip of plastic used for closing the fill spouts and/or discharge spouts.
Polyester - A complex compound used in making fibers or plastics. Polyester has a higher melting temperature than polypropylene, which makes it difficult to recycle when used in FIBCs. Polyester will not float in water.
Polyethylene - A form of plastic film which is used for liners. Also called “P.E.”.
Polypropylene - A petroleum based plastic used in weaving fabric for bulk bags. Also called “P.P.”.
Protective Bottom - An additional piece of fabric sewn to one side of the bulk bag at the bottom with ties on the opposite side. This flap will cover and protect the bottom. Also referred to as a “Diaper”.

RAT- For safety, a Reinforcement strip of webbing is sewn Around the Top of the sides. Sewn on at the same time the top is set, usually out of 1 ½" webbing. (Reinforcement around top)
Recondition - Cleaning, repairing and inspecting bulk bags for reuse.
Recycling - Chopping up and regrinding bulk bags into pellet form to be reused in secondary applications.
Reinforcement Square/Star Closure - A square piece of fabric which is branded with an ”X” and has webbing sewn in each flap for closing. It is sewn over the discharge spout for protection.
Remote Opening Discharge/ROD™ - A discharge designed to be opened with a hook from the side of the bulk bag to take the operator out from under the bag during discharge.

Selvedge - The finished or tucked edge of fabric.
Side - Material cut to a specified length that will form the body of a bulk bag.
Sleeve Bag - A bulk bag with two sides extended above the top of the bag and folded over to form sleeves for picking up a filled bag.
Slip Sheets - Flat sheets used along with or to replace pallets.
Slip Sheet Adapter - An adapter that is put on the front of a forklift which will extend out and grab the slip sheet then, retract to pull the load onto the forks.
Spec or Specification - Written procedures showing exactly how a bulk bag is to be manufactured.
Spread Strap™ - See “Cross Corner Loops”
Spreader Chains - Individual chains suspended from a ring with hooks on each free end.
Static Dissipating/Crohmiq&trade Blue Container - A bulk bag made with fabric that has conductive fibers running in one direction of the fabric. These bags generally do not have any way of grounding and are commonly referred to as a type “D-bag”.
Stevedore Straps - Heavy-duty straps, two per bag, threaded through two sets of lift loops to form basket-type straps for a one-point pickup.
Straps - The lifting mechanism of a bulk bag, usually found in the top corners, 10” long from the top of the bag to the top of the loop is standard. Also called “Loops”.
Strap Bag - A bag with straps sewn on each corner, and used for picking up a filled bag.
Super Sack® Container - A FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) or bulk bag that is a registered trademark of B.A.G. Corp. A Super Sack container is only manufactured and marketed by B.A.G. Corp.
T
Tie Tool - A tool used for twisting wire ties around an object for closure.
Top - Top panel of a bulk bag that will normally be made from coated fabric.
Tubular bulk bag or fabric - Tubular fabric is polypropylene that is woven with a round/circular loom. Tubular bags have fewer seams than four-panel bags and are good for fine or hygroscopic materials. Tubular bulk bags are also called “Circular Woven”.

Waffle - A square cover sewn in the hemmed area of duffel discharge spout to cover the opening when closed.
Web Tie - Strip of ½" wide webbing sewn into the fill spout and/or discharge spout for closure of the chutes.
Wire Tie - A strip of 12" or 16" plastic coated wire used for closing the fill spouts and/or discharge spouts of a bag.
